Description: Percent of households that experience food insecurity, meaning that residents of those households had difficulty providing enough food at some time during the year for all their household members due to a lack of resources. "Western NC" includes 27 counties in western region of North Carolina.

NOTE about Food Security data (page 26) in Community Food Security Assessment Report: Through this project NEMAC (National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center at UNC-Asheville) provides 2012 county-level food security figures and maps, which are shown [in the report], despite the more recent availability of 2013 data. A review of county-level food security in 2013 for WNC was virtually unchanged from 2012. In addition, national- and state-level data but not county-level for 2014 is available as of the date of publication (as of June 2016).
