Program Summary
Summer Youth Employment provides summer employment experiences and career decision-making information for local economically disadvantaged youth ages 16 to 24. All work experience positions are in public and/or private agencies and are not substitutes for jobs performed by the regular employees of participating agencies. The participating agencies provide work projects and job sites for eligible youth and supervise these activities. Performance of each youth is measured/assessed by the supervisor directly involved with the youth. This information is used to guide the youth in future ventures. The youth participants are seen individually and an intake and Individual Employment Plan is developed. Employees work with the participants to see what that need and offer the services.
Target Population
The target population is youth ages 16 to 24, who meet at least one or more of the following: School dropout; Basic skills deficient; Low Income; Offender (any stage); Homeless or foster are youth; Parenting or pregnant youth; and Low income.
