Program Summary
The Local Access Mechanism (LAM), also called the Child and Family Information Center (CFIC), provides information, referral and assistance to help families access and coordinate available services and supports, both public and private, to address the full range of need encountered by families with children. CFIC is the first point of contact within the Children, Youth & Families Division where an initial screening is completed to determine if the child or family is in a crisis situation that requires immediate attention. If the family is in a crisis and/or dangerous situation, a referral is made to the appropriate agency or resource (i.e., Child Protective Services, Mobile Crisis Team and/or local law enforcement). If the family and child/youth has a complex case or is involved with multiple agencies the family may be referred for Systems Navigation services.
