Why Is This Important?

A thriving community is one where whanau are healthy, vibrant and successful. Its one that enjoys a strong family focus, values children and supports parents in their role. A small collective of Otara Non-Government Organisations got together previously in 2015 to look at how Otara was going on that score. As part of this work, they invited over 70 Otara stakeholders and residents to a hui held on Thursday 29 October 2016, to do the same. They didn't like what they saw either. And so those attending agreed without argument the future state desired by and for all in Otara, is one where "All people in Otara are Thriving".

The attendees when asked to think about what a 'Thriving Otara' would look like to them if happening now, they said this -
