Story Behind the Curve

Generation Station has been in operation since November 1999, serving an average of 50 youth/year over the last three years, with an average daily attendance of about 20 youth, or about 40% of the total enrollment.  Consistent program attendance promotes better overall outcomes, and participants in this program have maintained an average school attendance rate of 94% over the last three years.  Parent participation is generally difficult to attain for out-of-school time programs, and perhaps even more so for a program that transports participants from school to the program and then to their homes at the end of the day.  In spite of that, an average of 15 parents/year participate in at least one program activity.  Finally, an average of 73% of participants improve pro-social attitudes each year and 82% show some improvement in grades.

What Works

GS has moved to Five Rivers Church and is using two vans to offer transportation.   GS continues to offer a monthly field trip for students meeting the criteria.  Currently, staff is delivering growth mindset lessons and activities once weekly from “Class Dojo”. Generation Station reports that 21 out of 46 registered young people attend daily. There is a substantial presence of high school students still in the program which indicates their continued want to be involved. In January a reward field trip was held at the West Town Theater in Middletown and in February the field trip was to the hibachi grill. During the last marking period, 13 generation station students made honor roll and 16 were awarded for perfect attendance.

Action Plan

Data Discussion

Program managers note a decline in attendance based on availability of school activities during certain times of year. Data is collected from this program monthly.  Where appropriate, measures are reported on each month, at the mid-year point or annually.  Tools include surveys or referral forms
