Story Behind the Curve

Although a small percentage of children who participate in PAT services are identified for intervention, the children are presenting with much more intensive needs.  This trend has been observed by those participating in the new E-SMART grant which is providing an early childhood mental health system of care across Carroll County.  Parents as Teachers will be funded, starting in FY 19, by this new system of care.

Partners

Partners include Carroll County Public Schools Judy Center, The Carroll County Youth Service Bureau and Human Services Program of Carroll County.

What Works

The ASQ-3 is a series of 21 parent-completed questionnaires designed to screen the developmental performance of children in the areas of communication, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, problem solving, and personal-social skills. The age-appropriate questionnaire is completed by the parent or caregiver.  Parents are also given the opportunity to discuss any developmental concerns that may not be recorded by the ASQ.  Addressing these developmental issues veryyoung children leads to greater opportunities for early intervention services.

Action Plan

Data Discussion

Data is collected through the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, which is administered to each child as they progress in age and development.  A cut-off score is pre-determined and any child that scores above that threshold is referred for additional testing/screening or services.
