Story Behind the Curve
Children exiting Parents as Teachers and entering public school have not yet been assessed for kingergarten readiness. This data will be available in September of 2018. In Carroll, there is a wide gap between kindergarten readiness for children from middle to high income versus children who are eligible for free and reduced meals. Parents as Teachers works to close this gap by identifying children who are in need of early intervention services.

What Works
Parents as Teachers assesses children for developemental concerns throughout enrollment in the program. This allows children to receive early intervention services, which ultimately will help children be prepared for kindergarten.

Data Discussion
Data for kindergarten readiness for those children exiting Parents as Teachers will not be available until the fall of 2018. Carroll County only assesses 30% of those the children entering kindergarten, which is the minimum percentage required by the state.
