Comprehensive Parenting Program Initiative (Worcester County FY17 Annual)

Story Behind the Curve

First half of FY2018

For the first half of fiscal year 2018, all objectives have either been met or are on target to be met within the time frame, with the exception of the performance measure related to the Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory pre and post test. Each class within the Comprehensive Parenting Program utilizes a specific test created for that curriculum. Staff expects that during the third quarter, the utilization of the Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory tests will increase with the beginning of a new Nurturing Fathers class.

Additionally, a new staff member was trained in the Nurturing Families curriculum and has been facilitating classes in the local detention center.

Second half of FY2018

During the second half of FY2018, facilitators met all performance measure targets. The facilitators held a total of 20 course class session in the local detention center and in the community for those that have been incarcerated or facing incarceration. Facilitators are working closely with the Re-entry and Recovery program to collaborate and identify inmates that are in need of further services once released into the community, including referrals.

Reflecting on FY2018

During fiscal year 2018, the Comprehensive Parenting Program served 63 parents that were either housed in the local detention center, recently released, or with open criminal cases and those related to CINA (Child in Need of Assistance). Referrals for the parenting program have been coming from multiple agencies, including the Department of Social Services and the Worcester County Health Department, Re-entry and Recovery program. The ability to utilize a female new facilitator has drastically increased the number of women that can be served while incarcerated. Facilitators will continue to utilize the Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory with new parents enrolled in the parenting program.
