Trauma-Informed Youth Intervention (Kent County FY 17) - Annual

Program Summary

Trauma Informed Youth Intervention is the Kent County Health Department's continuation of the evidenced-based Seeking Safety Program with a focus on reaching children impacted by incarceration. The licensed clinical social worker provides education and guidance to teenagers who have experienced mild to moderate chemical use and trauma, substance use and/or similar parental behaviors in the home.

The social worker assesses and provides services to youth to make healthier lifestyle choices. The services include individual session and group work as necessary. It has been used with youth who have a history of trauma but do not meet the criteria for clinical PTSD, or those with a history of substance use even if not currently active, or those with one or the other.  It is also used as a general stabilization tool to teach coping skills.

Target Population

Middle and high school age youth with a history or trauma, including youth who have experienced the incarceration of a parent.
