Teen Court Program (Harford County FY17) - Annual

Program Summary

Teen Court is offered as a positive experience to divert a first time teen offender way from a pattern of criminal behavior.  It is a restorative justice program run by teens for teens.  The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Division operates the program as a diversion plan to prevent certain juvenile cases from being forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services and allows offenders to serve-out sanctions handed down by a jury of their peers.  

Target Population

Services are provided to first time offenders, between the ages of 11-17, that have committed a non-violent misdemeanor offense.  Services are available to youth county- wide with special emphasis on zip code areas Bel Air, Aberdeen, and Abingdon.  Targeted youth offenders can be referred by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the Harford County Public Schools or the Department of Juvenile Services.
