This program got started later then expected due to staff turn over. The school system will be starting the program earlier in the school year and have already identified the coordinator of this program in FY 2019.

Program Summary
Working with and supporting youth in their communities with the implementation of the a community based mentoring program, which employs the Developmental Asset Model. Additionally, the program will use the funds from the Children's Cabinet on children from families affected by incarceration and/or experiencing hunger related issues. FY 2019, the students that will be tageted for inclusion in the program are those qualifying for Free and Reduced Meals (FARMs) or those coming from families impacted by parental incarceration. These students are paired with an adult mentor. The mentor and mentee focus on building positive relationships, improving school performance, and encouraging regular school attendance. Each session is based around food, nutrition and wellness.
Target Population
Children and youth; Male and female; 8-13; in the Title 1 elementary schools The children are identified by the counselors at the school. The students are typically identified because of the academics, family life, poverty, etc. that typically manifest with lack of school attendance leading to truancy. In FY 2019, the target population are students that are receiving FARMs and/or those students who are coming from families affected by incarceration.
