Why Is This Important?
National Summer Learning Day is a national advocacy day, founded by the National Summer Learning Association and aimed at elevating the importance of keeping kids learning, safe and healthy every summer, ensuring they return to school in the fall ready to succeed in the year.
Who We Serve
Our work is based on the simple idea that summer—a time that is easily overlooked yet critical to educational development—is bursting with possibility, and instrumental in closing the achievement gaps that riddle our communities more vulnerable children. By casting a spotlight on summer learning loss, and galvanizing parents, educators, legislators, and community organizations to embrace the power of summer learning, we have created a space for greater achievement and potential for all children.

Action Plan
The Flint & Genesee Literacy Network, along with member organizations, are committed to sending a powerful message across the community that summers matter by presenting our local Summer Learning Days. This week-long effort, starting Thursday, July 12 through Thursday, July 19, will emphasize the importance of summer learning opportunities through a series of activities, classes and events. These opportunities are designed to reduce the summer learning loss at numerous “cradle to career” sites across the county.
