Story Behind the Curve
In working with Choice, the LCB recognized that during the monitoring process, Choice provided the DJS Model and the majority of the youth being targeted were DJS Youth. This year was the first year Choice engaged in services with the LCB in Howard County. Choice had some challenges in connecting with partners in Howard County as well as obtaining the goal set for targeted youth to serve. There were also additional challenges around certain services offered and what was thought to be expected by the program as well as the effectiveness of communication skills.

What Works
The mentors of the Choice program were able to build a rapport with some of the youth. If a family or youth needed assistance in finding certain services, the Choice program mentors were resourceful.
Program Summary
Serves as a community-based, family-centered case management approach to delinquency prevention and youth development. It empowers youth and engages families to leverage a multitude of services adapted to their individual needs.
Target Population
High school youth and youth 16-24. Targeting the 21045 and 21044 zip codes, which includes the Oakland Mills, Long Reach, Wild Lake and Owen Brown villages.
