The Strengthening Families program had challenges with recruitment of families. Recruitment was low due to this service being new to the community of Howard County as well as the targeted population. To add onto those challenges were obstcles that some of the families had such as: transporation and location.

What Works
What worked well with this program when attendees attended were the skill set of the program staff, the building of rapport with families. The Strengthening Families model allowed some attendees to build upon thier skills.
Program Summary
The Strengthening Families Program involves elementary school children and their families in a series of 14 training sessions that uses family systems and cognitive behavioral approaches to increase resilience and reduce risk factors of family who have been and are impacted by a guardian/parent incarcerated. The program seeks to improve family relationships, parenting skills and youth's social and life skills.
Target Population
Families who have had or have a parent(s)/guardian(s) incarcerated and children between the ages of 6 and 12.
