College Park YSB Project Wellness Reduce Childhood Hunger (Prince George's County FY19 and Beyond) Annual

Program Summary

The City of College Park Youth and Family Services also has a strong, effective record of working with community partners. Project Wellness will build on that expertise and enhance or build a direct relationship with local organization experts currently engaged in the work of nutrition, health and wellness such as local food banks, the local SHARE Food Network, the Prince George’s County Health Department, and the UMD Extension Service/Nutrition and Food Science, Elaine Ellis Center for Health. The purpose of the partnerships is to strategically collaborate to provide parents access to information and resources to address their family’s immediate food needs and enhance both children and parents’ ability to implement nutrition and fitness into their daily lives.

Children and families participating in Project Wellness will be connected to their local food banks to address immediate food insecurity. In addition, families will engage in a two-generation, multi-language approach by providing on-going bilingual food resources and nutrition information and hosting quarterly, engaging nutrition and/or budgeting programs, and providing resources to connect children to summer meal programs in their respective communities. The YSB currently works with translators and have literature and materials available in Spanish.

Target Population

The City of College Park Youth and Family Services YSB Project Wellness will target 65 individual FARM/SNAP children (35) and parents (30).
