Why Is This Important?

According to the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school year data, around 46% of children were entering kindergarten NOT READY to learn according to their (Kindergarte Readiness Assessment (KRA) scores as reported by the Oberlin City School District. Research shows that children who enter kindergarten behind, remain behind their better prepared peers. [1]  When children begin school with a stronger foundation, they have a greater chace to lead a successful and prosperous live, effecting not only the child but the whole community.   OberlinKids is a collaborative of 15 organizations dedicated to developing solutions to ensure that ALL children enter kindergarten healthy and ready to learn.

Story Behind the Curve

June 2018

A series of tests began this month to introduce and begin to utilize an online screenings systen through ASQ Online.  This online system is meant to work as an additional touch point for busy families and is in addition to, not replacement of, fafce-toface screenings and family meetings. Initial usage og the online model was unsuccessful with a 0% completion rate.

July 2018

The digital links for parent and child intake form completion and online completion of the ASQ-3 (Developmental) and ASQ-SE-2 (Social-Emotional) screening tools has begun to take off.  Various testing is still in progress to identify the key subject lines, incentives (if necessary), and outreach methods to community members to increase the number of children who are screened, therefore identifying more chidlren who may benefit from interventions or further screenings prior to entering kindergarten.
